Harvest Church of New Jersey (HCNJ) is located in Jersey City, New Jersey, an area conveniently adjacent to lower Manhattan in New York City. Mixing the old and the new, Jersey City is experiencing fast development in recent years with a growing young professional and student population. More Chinese families have relocated to the area, thus creating new opportunities and potential for the church to grow.
In fall 2007, a group of Christians in Jersey City prayed earnestly to spread the gospel in the area as well as the renewal of the church, and Pastor Mudao Xiao from Harvest Church of New York was so touched by the Holy Spirit that he made the decision to establish a branch church in Jersey City with emphasis on worship, the Holy Spirit, cell group Bible studies, spiritual transformation and family revival. Pastor Xiao, together with Pastor Joe Wong, took responsibility to revive the greater Jersey City area. As the church was established during an economic recession, the timing was right for spreading the gospel and saving spiritually hungry people.
In the last few years, HCNJ has grown steadily and become an important part of the community. As more Chinese students come to the United States to pursue higher education, HCNJ is called to minister specifically to them. Since 2009, the church has made an extra effort for campus-related church activities such as new student welcome events and Bible study groups, with the hope that more young people can be touched by God and accept the gospel.
